How can we lighten the load we carry?
When I was a little girl, my father was a long-distance truck driver, picking up loads in Florida and driving them up and down the East Coast.
Far too many times, he would pull over at a weigh station, be told his load was too heavy, and be fined.
I don’t remember the officers at the weigh station helping him unload the extra weight. I remember the complaints when he’d arrive home with the new citation.
The extra weight on the truck not only led to citations but also slowed my father’s deliveries. He couldn’t finish well. He had to off
We can sometimes hang on to things just because they were loaded on us and we don’t know life differently than the same old we’ve lived with for years.
I have held onto things that have hindered me from living out my faith freely and open to all that God intends.
I don’t want to move into yet another year holding tightly to things that keep me from growing closer to Jesus. So I’m purposefully choosing to lighten my load by leaving things behind.
We can lighten our load with our choices.
Choose to leave the past in the past. The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence.
Choose to leave the mental chaos and step into focus, fixing our eyes on Jesus and what He is calling us into.
Choose to leave fear of the future and embrace the potential and opportunities ahead.
Choose to leave the doubt of what lies ahead as daunting and trust that the Lord’s plan is better.
This time of the year is a great time to reflect, evaluate, choose, hope, and get excited about the possibilities.
What are you choosing to leave behind as this year closes, and what can you lighten your load with as you enter the next so that you can finish well?
As we walk into a new season, a new year, I pray you find yourself feeling a ton lighter and on the way to hope and joy of what’s to come!
