To prepare for my extended mission trip to the Dominican Republic, I’ve chosen to read the Bible in 90 Days.
One of the questions I get asked most often is a sincere, sometimes hesitant one: “How do I read the Bible?”
Usually, what’s hiding beneath that question is fear, fear of doing it wrong, fear of not understanding, fear of not being consistent enough, or fear of discovering how far away we might feel from God.
So here’s my honest answer:
Open it.
That’s it.
No special formula. No perfect plan. No spiritual résumé required.
Why I’m Reading the Bible in 90 Days
Right now, I’m reading the Bible in 90 days. Not because it’s the best way. Not because it’s the right way. And certainly not because it’s the only way.
I chose this pace because I wanted to experience Scripture as a whole, to see the big picture, the overarching story of God’s faithfulness, redemption, and love.
I wanted momentum.
I wanted immersion.
And I wanted to quiet the voice that says, “You don’t have enough time.”
But let me be clear: reading the Bible in 90 days doesn’t make me more spiritual. It doesn’t earn me extra credit with God. It simply helps me show up.
And showing up is the point.
The Myth of “The Right Way” to Read the Bible
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to believe there’s a correct method to reading Scripture, and if we don’t know it, we shouldn’t start.
Or we’ve been told we are reading it incorrectly.
We may compare ourselves to others who seem more disciplined, more knowledgeable, more consistent. We think we need the perfect study Bible, the perfect plan, the perfect teacher, or the perfect quiet time routine.
But Scripture was never meant to be gatekept.
God’s Word is living and active, not fragile. It doesn’t require you to understand everything before you begin. It simply invites you to come.
One verse read with an open heart matters.
One chapter read imperfectly still counts.
One moment of honest presence is enough.
If You’re Not Reading the Bible Right Now
Let me gently say this: you are not behind.
If you’ve tried and stopped.
If you’ve opened it and felt confused.
If you’ve avoided it because life feels overwhelming.
You are not failing.
You’re human.
And God is not standing on the other side of Scripture waiting to correct you; He’s waiting to meet you.
Simple Ways to Begin (Or Begin Again)
If you’re unsure where or how to start, here are a few pressure-free options:
- Read one Psalm a day. Let the words become prayers.
- Start in the Gospels. Sit with Jesus and watch how He loves people.
- Use a reading plan, but hold it loosely. Miss a day? Just keep going.
- Read without trying to “study.” Listen first. Understanding grows over time.
- Set a small, realistic goal. Five minutes is enough.
And if a 90-day Bible reading plan sounds life-giving to you, try it. If it sounds overwhelming, don’t. You can find it on the Bible App.
The goal isn’t speed. The goal is connection.
What Matters Most
The most important habit isn’t how you read the Bible. It’s that you return.
That you keep opening it. That you allow God’s Word to shape you over time, slowly, quietly, faithfully.
You don’t need to feel ready. You don’t need to feel confident. You don’t need to understand everything.
You just need to open the Book.
God will do the rest.
An Invitation
If this season of life feels uncertain, if you’re navigating change, transition, or questions about purpose, Scripture is a steady place to land.
Not because it gives quick answers, but because it reveals a faithful God who walks with you through every season.
Wherever you are today, let this be your permission:
📖 Open the Bible.
🤍 Read a little.
✨ Come back tomorrow.
That’s how faith grows.
One open page at a time.
So let me ask you this: What might change in your life if you simply opened the Bible and trusted God to meet you there?

I will get closer to God and I might see some real changes in me
God is working on you girl…let him! I know you can!
Wow. I’m blown away
I learned from one of the best! YOU!
